PSLE Math Tuition in Hougang
PSLE Math tuition for Primary 5 and 6 students at 212 Hougang Street 21, a 3-minute walk from Kovan MRT. At most 6 students per class, 2-hour lessons, $80 a lesson. (For Primary 1 to 4, see Primary Math tuition.)
What the PSLE tests
PSLE Mathematics has Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with a calculator. The marks that separate grades come from long word problems that need a heuristic: a method for turning the problem into units, models or equations.
What we cover
Primary 5: whole numbers, fractions and decimals, area of triangles, volume, percentage, rate, angles and patterns.
Primary 6: fractions, ratio and percentage, algebra, circles, angles, nets, average and rate, volume, area and perimeter.
Heuristics we teach step by step:
- Model drawing and units
- Branching and equal numerators
- Total unchanged, difference unchanged and one side unchanged
- Working backwards
- Excess and shortage, and assumption (guess and check)
- Quantity x value
How we prepare students
- Topical worksheets alternate with heuristics practice, so problem sums never feel separate from the topics.
- Model solutions in one consistent method per question type, so students know what to write.
- School prelim papers under timed conditions in the final months, with careless mistakes tracked.
How every lesson works
Every class has at most 6 students and lasts 2 hours. Each topic follows the Outclass Approach: Understand, Apply, Master, Perform, and your child moves on only when ready. After every lesson, parents see the topic, the stage reached and a tutor's note in our parent app, with a monthly progress report.
Frequently asked questions
What are the hardest PSLE Math topics?
For most students, fractions, ratio and percentage word problems (the 'Big 4' with decimals), plus questions that combine two topics. These are where heuristics matter most.
My child panics on long word problems. Can you help?
Yes. We teach a fixed routine: read, draw the model, label units, then calculate. Practised every week, it becomes automatic.
Should my child use a calculator for Paper 2?
Yes, but we also practise mental and written methods, because Paper 1 has no calculator.
How much are lessons?
$80 a lesson, 2 hours, at most 6 students. No registration or material fees.
